Avith Ortega is the name of the music project where I first started to release music, experimenting and combining styles of Trip Hop, Ambient, Industrial and Dark Ambient genres.
The first album “The Spill” was released on 2012, with the intention of producing songs that explored a variety of moods and atmospheres that go from soft and eerie to harsh and dark with emphasis in emotion, taking inspiration from psychological survival horror games and movies, as well as some TripHop and ambient artists.
Some of the main influences are artists and groups like Akira Yamaoka, Massive Attack, Portishead, Nine Inch Nails, and horror videogame soundtracks. This also influenced the structure of the the albums, so you can expect a variety of sounds, styles, themes and emotions in every album that works as a soundtrack of an imaginary movie or game, but that also can be enjoyed as an independent music album.
I started making this music because back in 2011 I was searching for more music that resembled the soundtracks of the Silent Hill series, and I stumbled upon some people that were trying this, but they sounded very amateur to me, and sometimes they were just simply copy-and-pasting the same sounds and melodies from the music of the games, or they just focused on one side of the soundtrack’s sound palette (mainly on the rock, soft/light ambient and triphop songs). This frustrated me a little because I wanted to hear an actual continuation of the SH soundtracks, you know, not only the soft ambient music pieces, but I also wanted to hear the dark triphop songs, the DARK ambient with the same uncanny nature of the games, the industrial sounds that actually sounded like Final boss themes, the melancholic piano pieces, and above all of that, using new and original sounds never heard before with completely new melodies… something fresh. This is what really led me to make it by myself, just to be able to hear more music with all this characteristics and sounds.
Due to the similarities, I tried to appeal the SH fans to my music and tag my music as such. However, I also would like to show the rest of the music influences I have, as well as my own direction and style of it. Some of that is already present in past releases in some way, other times I had to create music projects with a new Artist Name to split such different styles (see my Avitronic & AVITECH music). One way or the other, I will keep continuing experimenting with all of it and see what I can come up with.
Based on my findings and personal picks, I made a playlist with many different artists/bands where I have gathered the music that resembles the style and vibes of Silent Hill (at least for me):
This is Playlist also available on Apple music, Dizzer, Amazon, Tidal, NetEase, Yandex music, Pandora, $ Quboz.
I have produced cover versions of some Silent Hill songs, particularly songs that were not previously available on streaming platforms, and after acquiring the compulsory Music Licence then I was able to publish them on music streaming platforms.
I also have made youtube videos showing how I made them, the full playlist is “Silent Hill DECONSTRUCTIONS“.
Some of the songs from the first album were originally mixed and mastered on Dolby Atmos (binaural-3D audio), and to make sure that it keeps its binaural effect, I downmixed the Atmos format to binaural stereo, so everybody can listen to it without the need of having an Atmos or Spatial audio subscription, the only thing you will miss in the case of Apple music is the headtracking feature (that was also the original meaning of the name & coverart).
